Water Baptism Sunday Aug 17

August 7th, 2008

Elijah On Sunday, August 17th, 2008, we are having Baptism in our 9:00 and 11:00 services. We are thankful for our salvation and desire to proclaim that thankfulness to others through water baptism. As a child of God, it is important to follow Jesus’ example and be baptized in water. Baptism is an outward expression of what has already occurred in our heart and is the next step that Jesus asks us to take after salvation.

“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” Mark 16:16.

“Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” Acts 2:38.

I highly encourage you to be water baptized. It will be a significant spiritual event in your life that you will treasure forever. Don’t let the devil rob you of this joy. As you make the decision to be baptized, we rejoice with you as you publicly declare, “I am now a new creation in Christ Jesus, the old has passed away and all things are new! I am now baptized into the Body of Christ Jesus. I am part of His family!”

Things you will need to bring with you to baptism:

· Shorts and a shirt that can get wet. We do not have baptism robes so do not wear thin or white garments that tend to show through when they become wet.

· Towel and any other toiletry you may need.

· Dry clothes to change into.

· Plastic bag for your wet clothes.

· As many family members and friends as possible. Note: Your family is welcome to take pictures.

If you desire to be baptized, please call the church office as soon as possible to verify which service you will be attending and to schedule an appointment to record your testimony.

Optional Testimony Video

We would also like to encourage all of our baptism candidates to allow us to videotape their testimony. Each testimony will be played immediately preceding that person’s actual baptism. The testimony can be 30 seconds or 4 minutes, but we ask you to keep it less than 5 minutes. It can be as simple as: “Hello, my name is Jeff Smith. I am here to declare my love for Jesus Christ by publicly identifying with Him through baptism. Thank you for sharing this important moment with me.” Or you can share your entire story of how you came to Christ (keeping within the allotted time).

Please include the following two points in your testimony:

1) We feel that it is important for you to mention the fact that you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

2) We encourage you to thank the people who were instrumental in leading you to Christ or to our church.

Why is your testimony so important? Nothing will inspire others to embrace relational evangelism like these stories. It’s wonderful to know that we can make a difference in the lives of others by sharing Christ Jesus with them! We would also love for you to invite as many friends and family members as possible to come hear your testimony and witness your baptism. It could change their lives forever as well. Many people have received Christ themselves after witnessing the believers being baptized!

Thank you and God bless you,
