Promo 11-27

Why would Jesus want us to love our enemies? Why does he expect us to do good to those who hate us? What is the purpose behind blessing those who curse us? And why should we keep praying for those who mistreat us?

Join us the Sunday, 11-27-11, at Believers Church, 9 or 11 a.m., for our conclusion of THE LUKE 6 REVOLUTION. We conclude with “Pray for Those Who Mistreat You”. Then we will take a look at the big picture of the Luke 6 Revolution and answer the questions as to why Jesus is calling us to live this way.

We will also have a guest worship leader on Sunday 11-27-11. Justin Jeremias and his wife Grace will be worshiping together with us. So shake off the turkey blues and let’s celebrate Jesus together with a spirit of thanksgiving!

Keep doing the two verses that can change the world! Two verses in Luke Chapter 6 that are revolutionary! The two verses that will change everything.

Luke 6:26-27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

The Luke 6 Revolution Bless Those Who Curse You Believers Statesboro 11-20-11

Two verses that can change the world! Two verses in Luke Chapter 6 are revolutionary!

These two verses will change everything.

Luke 6:27-28 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Love, Do Good, Bless, and Pray

NEXT STEP: I will memorize and meditate on Luke 6:27-28 this week.

The Malediction Web def: 1) a curse; 2) The utterance of a curse; 3) slander

James 3:8-12 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. (NIV)

Are Words Really That Powerful?

Proverbs 18:21 “Life and Death are in the power of the tongue.”

Proverbs 18:21 Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit-you choose.

(The Message)

The Source of Curses and Maledictions

James 3:13-16

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

15 Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.

16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. (NIV)

Three Bitter Waters

James 3:11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? (NKJ)

1) Harsh Words

2) Silence

3) SelfCursing

When Cursed…

· Bless When You are Cursed

Luke 6:28 Bless those who curse you.

Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

Numbers 6:27 "So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them." (NIV)

1 Cor 4:11-12 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it. (NIV)

What about the curses that we speak over ourselves?

STOP! AGREE with what the Word of God says about you. Speak that. Bless yourself with the Word of God. Speak the “Who You Are In Christ Verses”. Take it like daily medicine.

NEXT STEP: I will stop speaking curses on myself and agree with what God’s Word says about me.

· Practice Second-Mile Christianity

Matt 5:38-45

  • Sons of your Father in heaven – (Vs. 45) Blessing your enemies is a sign of maturity.

If you bless, you will be mature sons, partners with the Father, positioned beside the Father. You will be seeing things from the Father’s point of view.

Then, you will say, “Father, how can we help them today?

How can we bless them today, Father?”

  • 1st Mile – The Curse is at work.

2nd Mile – The Blessing is at work. Redemption is found in the second mile.

When we fight back, we lose the opportunity to bring redemption into that relationship.

Let’s Do the Math: -1+ (-1) = -2 A cycle of cursing has begun.

-1+ (+1) = 0 This is 1st mile Christianity.

-1+ (+2) = 1 This is 2nd mile Christianity. Redemption has begun.

St. Augustine “Evil is the absence of good just as darkness is the absence of light.”

“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” Edmond Burk

· Remember You Are Called to Blessings Not Curses

Proverbs 26:2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest. (NIV)

1 Pet 3:8-9

8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.

9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (NIV)

NEXT STEP: I will speak at least one blessing over someone who is cursing me.

· Trust God to Make Things Right

1 Peter 2:15-23

21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

22 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."

23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. (NIV)

1 Peter 2:21-23 The Message (MSG) This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived.

He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step. He never did one thing wrong, Not once said anything amiss. They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right.

Next Week 11-20-11

Bless those who curse you? Jesus is really challenging us this week! But Pastor Scott has some ideas that will help you do what Jesus is asking you to do.

Speaking of curses, we will have a group of people publicly declaring that Christ Jesus has set them free for the curse of not being able to keep the law. How did Jesus do that? He became a curse for them. Read all about it in Galatians 3:13!

How will they make that public declaration? They will do it with Water Baptism!

You may want to join them? If so call the church office or just show up Sunday ready to be baptized!

Join us this Sunday at Believers Church, 11-20-11, at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. for:

The Luke 6 Revolution “Bless Those Who Curse You”

Two verses that can change the world! Two verses in Luke Chapter 6 are revolutionary!

These two verses will change everything.

Luke 6:27-28 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Love, Do Good, Bless, and Pray

I challenge you to join the “Luke 6 Revolution”. It all starts with you and me as we make a personal decision to allow the Holy Spirit to help us do what Jesus told all of us to do.

Baptism

Sunday, November 20th is a time for Water Baptism at Believers Church. You may or may not have been water baptized, but if you have not or you were baptized as a child and didn’t understand what you were doing, we would like to invite you to participate in a wonderful time of celebration of your new commitment to Christ. We are thankful for your salvation and your desire to proclaim that thankfulness to others through Water Baptism. As a child of God, it is important to follow Jesus’ example and be baptized in water. Baptism is an outward expression of what has already occurred in our heart and is the next step that Jesus asks us to take after salvation.

"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned”

Mark 16:16.

“Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” Acts 2:38.

I highly encourage you to be water baptized. It will be a significant spiritual event in your life that you will treasure forever. Don’t let the devil rob you of this joy. As you make the decision to be baptized, we rejoice with you as you publicly declare, “I am now a new creation in Christ Jesus, the old has passed away and all things are new! I am now baptized into the Body of Christ Jesus. I am part of His family!”

If you desire to be baptized, please call the church office as soon as possible to verify which service, 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m., that you would like to be baptized in. You also have the option to schedule an appointment to record your testimony.

Do Good

November 10th, 2011

Hateraid

So, people have been drinking “Hateraid” in honor of you! It can be expected. Why does it surprise you? Some say, “I can’t believe they would say that or feel that way towards me.” You can believe it!

Why? Well it’s due to guilt by association. Jesus said in Mark 13:13 all men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. (NIV)

The Good Response to Hateraid

What are we to do when people hate us? Avoid them at all cost? Hate them back? Put out a hit on them? No, Jesus had a more proactive plan. Luke 6:26-27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” What? That makes no sense. That’s not normal. Why should you do good to someone who is spewing hateraid  you?

Herein is theLuke 6 Luke 6 Revolution! Two verses that when applied will change everything!

Join us this Sunday. 11-13-11 at Believers Church, at 9 or 11 and let’s learn how to deal with the haters in our lives.

The Luke 6 Revolution “Do Good to Those Who Hate You”.

Luke 6 ANN PIC

The Luke 6 Revolution Love – Love Your Enemies Believers Statesboro 11-06-11

Luke 6:27-28

27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Love, Do Good, Bless, and Pray

These two verses in Luke Chapter 6 are revolutionary! If we put these two verses into practice (Luke 6:47-49), they will change everything! I challenge you to join the “Luke 6 Revolution”.

Love Your Enemies.

Luke 6:27-28 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies…”

John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Love: As if loving is not challenging enough, Jesus now tells us to love our enemies.

Enemy: One that is antagonistic to another; especially: one seeking to injure, overthrow, or confound an opponent

Proverbs 12:20 There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace. (NIV)

Why Is It So Hard To Love Your Enemies?

If you can’t love your neighbor who is not your enemy, you can’t love your enemies. If you can’t

love those who love you, you can’t love your neighbor. Unless you love yourself, you can’t love those who love you. Until you experience the love of Jesus for you and His transforming power, you can’t love yourself,

Matthew 22:30 “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (NIV)

You can’t love, accept, and forgive others if you can’t love, accept, and forgive yourself.

God’s love for us is the base line and standard of how we should love others.

John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. (NIV)

Step One – Receive Jesus’ love. John 15:12 “…Love each other as I have loved you.” (NIV)

1 John 4:16 We love because he first loved us. (NIV)

Step Two – Love yourself. Matt 22:30 “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (NIV)

Step Three – Love those who love you. Luke 6:32 "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them.”

Step Four – Love your neighbor. Gal 5:14 The entire law is summed up in a single

command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Step Five – Love your enemies. Luke 6:27 “Love your enemies”

NEXT STEP: Today, I will love, accept and forgive myself.

Love Helps

Realize Your Enemy Needs God.

I John 4:16 God is love. God is love. Love your enemies. God your enemies. Hate your enemies. Satan your enemies. Does your enemy need more of Satan or more of God?

“One touch for God changes everything!”

See Your Enemies Through Eyes of Faith.

In Matthew 5:13-14 When Jesus called His disciples the salt of the earth and the light of the world… they were not. They would be, but currently they were not. Jesus saw them how they would be. He saw them through “eyes of Faith.”

· 2 Corinthians 5:7-8 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

· “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Heb 11:1

· 2 Cor 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (NIV)

Begin to see your enemy as God sees them. It will be easier to love them that way.

Your Enemies Don’t Care How Much You Know, Until They Know How Much You Care.

John C. Maxwell “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”

Love is intentionally doing something caring or helpful for another person, in Jesus’ name, regardless of the cost or consequence to oneself. (From Who Cares About Love by Win Arn, Carroll Nyquist, and Charles Arn)

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

“You’ve never locked eyes with anyone that Christ Jesus doesn’t love.” Bill Hybels

NEXT STEP: Today, I will pray to see my enemy through eyes of faith.

Remember Love Is a Verb.

Love is a verb. Love is action. You may not feel like loving your enemies, but it’s not about a feeling.

I John 3:18 “My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”

Consider the action words of love in 1 Cor 13:4-8.

For example Love is patient, (Be patient with your enemy)

Being patient with your enemy sounds easier than loving them, but love is patient.

C.S. Lewis wrote: “Do not waste time bothering whether you ‘love’ your neighbor; act as if you did. As soon as we do this, we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him.”

When it comes to loving your enemies, you can ACT your way into feelings, but you will probably never FEEL your way into action.

Understand the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ Is Love.

Love motivated God to send Jesus to redeem the world. “For God so loved…”

If our enemies can’t see love, they can’t see the Gospel that we preach.

Paul said Christ’s Love Compels Us.

\

2 Corinthians 5

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.

15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

NEXT STEP: I will be baptized on 11-20-11 at the ___ 1st or ___ 2nd service.
