BP&W You Are A Worshiper Believers Statesboro 06-24-12

(Portions adapted from “The Air I Breath” Louis Giglio)

You Are A Worshiper!

Every day, in every place, you worship. It’s what you do. It’s who you are. We are all worshipers, created to bring pleasure and honor to the God who made us. You may not consider yourself a worshiping person, but you cannot help but worship…something.

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made;

without him nothing was made that has been made. (NIV)

Col 1:16-17 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (NIV)

NEXT STEP: I will memorize Colossians 1:16

All things were made by Him; and all things were made for Him. That Includes You!

You have been created by God, but not just created by Him, you were created for Him.

We come from the womb equipped for connectivity with God. Prewired to Praise!

Matt 21:16 "Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, "’From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’?" (NIV)

Worship Is Our Response To What We Value Most

Worship is about saying, this person, this thing, this experience (this whatever) is what matters most to me… it’s the thing of highest value in my life. To Ascribe Worth.

NEXT STEP: I will ask myself, what do I value most, what matters most to me?

Everybody Ascribes Worth

Not just the religious crowd. Everybody.

Everybody has an altar, and every altar has a throne.

In the end, our Worship is more about what we do than what we say.

NEXT STEP: I will follow the trail of my time, my affection, my energy, my money, and see where my allegiance lies.

All People Worship and All People Worship All The Time

Worship is the activity of the human soul. It’s not just a Sunday thing…it’s an all the time thing. Right now, every person in this city is worshiping – continually making decisions based on what they value most.

Rom 1:25 (Ref. vs.18-25) They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator– who is forever praised. Amen. (NIV)

1 Cor 8:5-6 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and through whom we live; (NIV)

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the only God worth worshiping.

Why Are We So Good At What We Do?

We all worship something all the time and we are good at it!

Why do we crave to worship? Why are we always looking for something more?

· Something of higher value?

· Something that is worthy of our worship?

Because that’s what we were designed to do. We were made for God.

Made By Him and For Him.

Whatever is worth most to you is what you worship.

Biblical Forms of Worship

Singing

Ps 92:1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; (NKJ)

Ps 100:2,4 “Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” (NKJ)

We encourage one another as we sing in church. Eph 5:19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, (NIV)

Ps 22:22 “I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.”( NIV) WHERE? In the congregation, in the church.

Jesus sings to God with us in our services. Heb 2:11-12 Both the one who makes men holy and those – who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. He says, "I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises." (NIV)

Jesus sings with joy over us. Zeph 3:17 “The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” (NIV)

Biblical Benefits of Singing: Victory – 2 Chr 20:13-37 and Deliverance – Acts 16:25

Community Group and Family Devotional Questions

  1. Do you feel like you were created to worship? Is it natural to you or not? Explain.
  1. What do you value most in life? What do you spend most of your time doing? What do you spend most of your money on? What do you give most of your energy to?
  1. Follow the trail of your time, energy, and money, and you will find a throne, and on the throne will be what you worship. What did you find on the throne?
  1. What do the other people in your life…friends, family, people you work with, what do they seem to be worshiping?
  1. Do you ever catch yourself worshiping the created thing, rather than the Creator?

It was a “Mission Possible” day as 12 children participated in activities at Summer SUMMIT.  Boys and girls worked together to tackle missions which included diffusing “bombs,” taking a lie detector test, completing a scavenger hunt, and making ice cream.  Everyone had a great time!  The students also learned about The Great Commission, our mission from Jesus to go, make disciples, baptize, and teach.

Next week we will focus on Independence!

Believers Church Picnic

June 26th, 2012

The church picnic was a huge success last Saturday! It was great to see so many families come together for a FUN afternoon. The weather was amazing, the food was delicious, and the fellowship was wonderful! Families enjoyed activities such as a balloon toss, a 3-legged race, volleyball, badminton, Frisbee, and karaoke. A big thanks to 30458 Grillmasters who served hamburgers and hotdogs fresh off the grill and to Geoffrey Cameron and Roger Wood Foods who donated the hotdogs. We really appreciate everyone who attended and for those who helped serve in some capacity.

06-24-12 BP&W You Are A Worshiper PIC

Every day, in every place, you worship. It’s what you do. It’s who you are.

We are all worshipers, created to bring pleasure and honor to the God who made us.

You may not consider yourself a worshiping person, but you cannot help but worship…something.

If you choose to not give God what He desires, you worship anyway – simply exchanging the Creator for something He created.

Join us at Believers Church at 9 or 11 a.m. as we learn what

Biblical Praise & Worship means.

Prov 2:1-4 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, (NIV)

Prov 3:5-8 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. (NIV)

Elbert Hubbard wrote, “Your friend is a man who knows all about you, and still likes you.”

1Thes 5:8-11 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (NIV)

R – Resilient

Summer Summit ad pic

The Summer SUMMIT is off to a great start!  On June 5th, 11 children learned about the seed and the sower.  They painted pots, planted flowers, and enjoyed some water fun.  On June 12th, 15 boys and girls gathered for an underwater adventure.  The excitement increased as everyone learned about Jonah’s disobedience and his attempt to hide from God.  The children played games, tie dyed t-shirts, made Father’s Day treats, and soaked each other with water balloons, water hose 4 corners, and water guns.  It’s getting wet and wild!

Children just exiting 1st through 5th grades can join us Tuesday, June 19th (9am-12pm) for our M&Ms themed day.  Ms. Lauren has planned the fun, and Mrs. Katy will be introducing the VBS music

Four Things I Dislike About You Lies, Lies, Lies. Believers Statesboro 06-10-12

Listen Online at http://believersstatesboro.com/home/audio-sermons/.

Lies Promo PicNo human has to be trained in telling a lie. Lying is inherent in man’s fallen nature.

Memory Verse

Col 3:9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices (NIV)

Rom 8:2 …because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and

death. (NIV)

Num 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (NIV)

NEXT STEP: I will memorize Colossians 3:9.

Lying is very quickly a destructive habit.

David prayed… Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously.

Psalm 119:29 NKJV

Three Phases of Lying

1. A lie is told to get out of trouble.

2. Lying even when you don’t have to. Lying for the sake of lying.

3. Can’t tell when you are lying or not. A seared conscience. It’s a slippery slope!

Christ taught that lying is the nature of Satan.

John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (NIV)

Lying destroys meaningful relationships.

Prov 26:28 A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin. (NIV)

Prov 22:1 A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. (NIV)

Lying can actually profit you for a season.

Prov 21:6 A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare. (NIV)

Proverbs 13:5 A righteous man hates lying, But a wicked man is loathsome and comes to

shame. (NKJV)

God will expose lying in His church.

Acts 4:33-34 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales. (NIV)

Acts 5:3-4 (Ref. verse 1-11) Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God." (NIV)

People lie because they do not understand the power of the truth. Christ was full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (NIV)

John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (NIV)

Christ had a passion for the truth!

John 3:21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." (NIV)

John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (NIV)

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (NIV)

John 14:17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (NIV)

John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (NIV)

It is only by the truth that we are truly free.

John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (NIV)

Three Things I Like About You (TLC)

TRUTHFUL

Ephesians 4:25 “Therefore, each of you, must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. (NIV)

LOVING

Ephesians 4:15, …speaking the truth in love,… (NIV)

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (NIV)

COMPASSIONATE

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (NIV)

Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (NIV)

NEXT STEP: I will soak my relationship in TLC, being truthful, loving,

and compassionate.
