09-27-15 CM Writing Your Change Mission Statement

Change Makers “Writing Your Change Mission Statement”   Believers Statesboro   09-27-15

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are built for.”  William Shedd

September has been a great time of discovering our purpose and Change Destiny.  The specific things that God wants us to change in our world.  But now it’s time to begin bringing about the change.

All we need to do, before we start is to write our Change Mission Statement!

Remember – Everybody ends up somewhere, only a few people end up somewhere on purpose.

And – Everyone sees a need for change, but few people know what God has called them to change.

If suddenly you discovered that you have unlimited money and resources, unlimited time, and unlimited help, what would you do to start to bring about change?

If that occurred, you couldn’t say oh I can’t do this or that because of limitations.  There would be none.

But seeing that we live in a world where we do have limited money, limited time, and limited help, how can you start fulfilling your purpose and bring about a change right now?

  • Yes, even with limitations, there are things you can do right now.  It’s time to start.  It’s time to be a CHANGE MAKER!  Let me give you four points that will help you.

Starting Point #1:

Realize you are accomplishing more right now than you think you are!

You may find yourself saying, “I know God has something for me to do, but I just don’t know what it is.”  Well, don’t overlook what you are already doing for God.

  • Even though I had not started the church yet.
    • I was a good father.
    • I shared Jesus with the people.
    • I was an Ambassador of Christ to my friends and neighbors.
    • I encouraged other people to start their ministries.
    • I taught Sunday school and Bible studies.
    • I served in every way that I could.
    • I helped start a Christian School.
    • I helped other churches get started.
    • I supported missionaries.
    • I was an Associate Pastor.

Starting Point #2:

Be faithful in small things while you are trusting God to promote you and develop your plan.

Luke 16:10  “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much”.

Even though this Scripture in its context is concerning money or something that is another man’s, the principal is the same.

  • What about faithfulness in your present job?

Colossians 3:23  “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”

In a nutshell, how you do your present job is a direct reflection on how you will do other assignments in the future.  We will talk more about our jobs this Wednesday Night, at One Hour On Wednesday, as we seek God for a Chazown for our Work Lives!

  • The principal of sowing and reaping applies here.  If you sow, work heartily in whatever task you have as unto the Lord, you will reap blessing from God.
  • God is your promoter!  The advancement comes from God not man.  You work for Jesus!  He is your true boss!

God will open windows of launch, so watch for them.  You will discover these windows of launch while you are being faithful.

  • Your life mission is lived out in 24 hour segments; one day at a time.
  • Live each day as unto the Lord, faithful to the call.
  • Don’t dream of your world-wide mission if you’re not being faithful to your home mission.
  • Don’t long for a greater mission if you are not being faithful in what God has called you to do right now.

What was the last thing that God asked you to do?  Have you done it yet?  Be faithful.

“Do all you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can, as long as you can.”  John Wesley

Next Step:  This week I will think about the things Jesus has asked me to do already.

I will honestly answer the question, “Am I being faithful to do what Jesus asks of me?”

Starting Point #3:  Start Writing Your Change Mission Statement.

“Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry”. Habakkuk 2:2-3

The message should be clear and understandable.

The mission statement should become our point of reference to always remind us of what we are suppose to be doing and encourage us to be steadfast in fulfilling our mission.

Also, a written mission is something that you can lay hold of and run with!

Your vision will motivate you.

“Dike builders are a motivated bunch.  Saving a town is enough to keep you working through the

night.  But just filling bags with dirt for the sake of bag-filling will leave you looking at your watch.”

Andy Stanley

______________________________ ,____________________________ & _____________________________

(Action Verbs from Step 2 – How you see yourself serving others)

(Core Value from Step 1 – What you want to help these wonderful people achieve)

(To, For, In or With)

(Who you most want to help.  Type of Person from Step 3)

Next Step:  I will write my Change Mission Statement and share it with someone who encourages me in my life and share it with my Life Group.

Starting Point #4:

Realize that a vision does not necessarily require immediate action.

Ps 105:17-19 and he sent a man before them– Joseph, sold as a slave. 18 They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons, 19 till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true. (NIV)

Notice the words “till what he foretold came to pass…”

Often times even after God begins to reveal our mission, there will be a waiting phase until the time that God’s Word comes to pass.  This is where faithfulness and patience will be needed

Even after you know what you are supposed to change, you may find yourself in a “The Waiting Phase.”

Why Wait?

  • God matures us during the waiting phase.
    • Mexico Trip.
  • God’s timing.
    • Prep time
    • Training time
    • Good Ideas / Bad timing.  Moses killing the Egyptian.
  • God is at work behind the scenes preparing the way.
    • “I bet you wish you would have started this church ten years ago.”  Yes and No.

What Do You Do During The Waiting Phase?

Three things:     1) You pray.      2) You plan.      3) You prepare.

Pray, seek God; develop your relationship with Him.  Learn to hear from the Holy Spirit.

Plan      EX:  Doug Watson – Prepare yourself.   2 1/2 years of sermons.

When God moves, He moves quickly.

Prepare.  What skills are going to need? What can you get ready before hand?

Everybody ends up somewhere, only a few people end up somewhere on purpose.

Everyone sees a need for change, but few people know what God has called them to change.

It’s time to write your Change Mission Statement and start bringing Change!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines.  Sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore.  Dream.  Discover.”  Mark Twain

I am excited to see what God is going to do through you!

You Are A Change Maker!

Next Step:  This week I commit to start bringing about the positive change that Jesus has called me to.  And I will be patient while it all comes about!

Every body ends up somewhere, but few bodies end up somewhere on purpose.

Every physical body will end up somewhere in life, but very few bodies will end up somewhere on purpose.

Wednesday nights we are talking about Chazown, a vision, dream or revelation that we all have inside us for our lives. We have discussed finding our Chazown by changing our Relationship with God, our Relationships with Others, our Financial Life and this week we discuss how we can Change our Physical Life. Join us as we continue with CHAZOWN at 7 pm for One Hour on Wednesday.

Change Makers  “Change Blockers”  Sermon Notes 09-20-15    (Adapted from “God Has A Dream for You” Bill Godwin)

09-20-15 CM Change Bockers_blog

Everyone sees a need for change, but few people know what God has called them to change.

I believe everyone wants two things:

  1. They want to have a close relationship with Christ Jesus.
  2. They want to discover and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives and make a change, a difference.

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her.”  Prov.3:13 & 18 NKJV

Find your Change Purpose.  Take hold of your Change Purpose.  Retain your Change Purpose.

God has destined you to walk in your purpose.  He has a CHANGE He wants to bring about through you, so what is keeping you from fulfilling your change purpose?  I believe that the only thing that can keep you from fulfilling your dream is you and your negative thinking.  Our spiritual warfare is played out on the battlefield of our mind.  Notice that all of the Change Blockers we will deal with today concern our “thinking”; not what others are telling us, but what we are telling ourselves.

  • Please don’t disagree with what God says about you or is asking you to Change.
    • God thinks your value is unlimited.  Your Change will make a difference.
    • Jesus believes that nothing is impossible for you… (Mark 9:23, Matt. 17:20)
    • The Holy Spirit lives inside of you and is empowering you.
  • God wants to do something great through you.

2 Chr 16:9  “For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.”  (NAS)  God is not searching for talent and ability but rather a heart that is completely His.

  • You have a gift!

1 Pet 4:10  “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”  (NIV)

  • God put the dream in your heart.  His touch will make them matter.

EX:  “Touch of the Master Hand.” http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/w/wayne_watson/touch_of_the_masters_hand.html

What God has called you to change will make a difference!

Phil 4:13  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  (NKJ)

  • Do you doubt your ability or Christ Jesus’ ability?  Are you focused on you or Him?
  • Do you believe more in your ability to hear God or in His ability to speak to you?
  • Do you believe more in your ability to be used by God or in His ability to use you?
  • Do you believe more in your ability to follow God or in His ability to lead you?

The enemy is supposed to try to discourage us.  (Or else he wouldn’t be a good devil.)

  • Who do you think you are?                                            An empowered child of God.
  • Why would anyone want to listen to you?                       I have the mind of Christ.
  • You need help yourself.                                                  In my weakness, He is strong.
  • You’re not holy enough.  You’ve sinned too much.          I have the righteousness of Christ.
  • You are not trained, certified or ordained.                       The Holy Spirit is my teacher.
  • Someone else could do it better.                                                Maybe but I have a gift to give.
  • You will surely fail.                                                        The back of the book says we win.
  • It has already been done, or said before!                                     I still have a calling.

“The devil tells me over and over, “You’re not capable of pastoring.”  But if your mind is filled with the promises of God, there is no room for Satan, and you will see yourself the way God sees you.”

 Joel Osteen

Your availability makes you valuable.  You are in the right place at the right time!

You are able to do great things!

Change Blocker # 3 WHAT IF I FAIL?

Fear of failure kills many dreams.  “The major difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure.”  John Maxwell, Failing Forward

Key Facts about Failure:

  1. Everybody Fails.

Michael Jordan missed 9000 shots, lost 300 games and 26 times he was entrusted with the game winning shot and missed.

  1. Nobody Enjoys Failure.

No one likes it.  No one wants to go through it.  We hide it, we deny it, we fear it, we ignore it, and we hate it.  We tend to do everything except face it and deal with it.  Often times, we need to understand that failure is a necessary step to success.  The person who has never made a mistake has never attempted anything in life.

  • Many successful business people, inventors, athletes, and salesmen have failed as often as they have succeeded. Many millionaires have experienced financial bankruptcy and tremendous loss prior to success.
  1. Anybody Can Learn How To Fail Forward.
  • Consider America’s favorite past time, baseball. If a batter is able to get a hit three times out of ten, he will probably end up in the Baseball Hall of Fame.  Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs, but did you know that he struck out approximately 1330 times?  I wonder what would have happened if Ruth would have focused on the strikes rather than the hits.  What if he had lost heart and given up?  He didn’t.  “The Babe” understood the simple principal that if you want to hit the ball, you must swing the bat!

You will fail, but you will learn to fail forward.

You must believe God has an easier and better way to bring about your change destiny than what you know right now.  Make your change purpose your focus, and you’ll find the time.

  • Do you really want it?  People find the time to do what they want to do.
  • Man at the pool of Bethesda in John 5.  “Do you want to be healed?”  Yes, but ….   Focus on what you want, not on the fact that you have no one to help you.

In Christ Jesus, you do have time to fulfill your dreams.

 Change Blocker # 5 I DON’T HAVE THE RESOURCES.

An impossible dream requires supernatural resources.

Jesus gave His disciples seemingly, impossible tasks.

  • Matt 10:6-8  Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.  As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’  Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. (NIV)
  • Matthew 14:16  “You give them something to eat.”
  • John 14:12  I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. (NIV)

Jesus wanted them to reach beyond their natural ability in order to force them to seek a new source of power – God’s.

Do what you love, and money will follow!

Matt 6:33  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (NIV)

God has the right person – at the right place and the right time – to help you.  Moses, the seventy, Numbers 11:16-17; Jesus, the support team of women, Luke 8:1-3

You Have Supernatural Resources Available to You.

WHERE DO I START?  Bottom Line:  Start right where you are.  God has placed you where you are for a reason.  It’s easier to steer something that is moving as opposed to something that is standing still.

Start Where You Are.

Change Blocker # 7 I’M NOT SURE IF IT’S GOD OR ME.

It Might Be God If …

  • Your dream burns in your heart on a consistent basis.
  • If the idea keeps coming back to you when you are close to God.
  • If when you think about pursing the dream your heart beats faster.

Look in your heart; see the Change Purpose that is from God.

Change Blocker # 8 I DON’T KNOW WHERE I WILL END UP.

The moment the disciples stepped out of their fishing boat to follow Jesus; they left the security of this world.  They didn’t know where they would end up either.  But, I bet now they are glad they did.

  • You will never become what you could be if you remain where you are.
  • In 10 years, you will arrive, but the question is where will you be when you arrive?

Where you arrive in ten years is determined by what you are thinking and doing today!

“It matters not if you know where your dream will take you.  It matters only that you know that your dream will make you.  What you will become is far more important than what you will get in life.”    Bill Godwin

If you follow your Change Purpose, you will love where you end up.

I tell church planters “Learn to love rejection because it will be with you for a while.”

Not that we really love rejection, but that we learn how to deal with it.  The same is true for you.

  • Jesus was rejected by many.
  • Peter, Paul, or anyone who has ever done anything great for God has experienced rejection.
  • Seek to please God, not to please men.
  • Ask yourself, “Is my dream worth some rejection?”
  • Be like Esther, “If I perish, I perish.”

Some will reject you, but many more will embrace you and be Changed!

  • Bloom where you are planted. Excel right where you are.
  • Don’t wait for man to give you opportunities, make your own.

Do you have any difficulties in your life?

Albert Einstein said, “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”

You are surrounded by more opportunities than you think.

You are discovering your purpose and understanding the Change that God wants to bring about through you. God has destined you to walk in this purpose, so don’t let your thinking block you out of the fulfillment of your dreams and the change that is to come!

If you have given up on your dreams or you are struggling to walk it out, the first CHANGE you need to make is to CHANGE your way of thinking.

Matt 4:17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” (NIV)

Repent – Metanoeo-To Change your way of thinking

Your Change Purpose is part of God’s Kingdom plan.  So if you are in doubt, repent, change your way of thinking because your change purpose is at hand.

It’s within your reach!

Next Step:  This week I will honestly consider all Ten Change Blockers and identify which ones are holding me back.  I will take it to the Lord and break any blockage that’s holding me back!

Life Group and Family Devotional Application

  1. Think about the Change God is calling you to bring about. How will the world be different when you bring about the change?  How will the world be different if you DON’T bring about the change?
  1. In light of Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (NKJ)

Do you doubt your ability or Christ Jesus’ ability?

Do you believe more in your ability to hear God or in His ability to speak to you?

Do you believe more in your ability to be used by God or in His ability to use you?

Do you believe more in your ability to follow God or in His ability to lead you?

  1. In your own words, explain the concept of Failing Forward.
  1. The enemy is supposed to try to discourage us. Concerning your Change Purpose what lies has he told you?
