CHOOSE FAITH Week 7 “See It, Say It, Do It”  Sermon Notes   Believers Statesboro       10-22-17

In accordance with John 10:10, we CHOOSE LIFE.  One of the best ways to choose life is to CHOOSE FAITH.  We choose to walk by faith, and we choose to live by faith.

Next Life Step:  I will memorize 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight. (NIV)

Living by faith is the best way to experience the abundant life that Jesus has for us.

So far, we’ve discovered what faith is, and we’ve looked at the nuts and bolts of how faith works.

We learned that our Faith is expressed in our speech, and we talked about how to make a great reception; how to receive from God.  To sum it all up today, we are going to Choose Faith as we:

See It!                          Say It!                                      Do It!

See God’s Promises!           Speak God’s Promises!        Take Action on God’s Promises!

See It! See God’s Promises!

2 Peter 1:1-4 tells us that we have obtained a “precious faith” and that the Lord has “has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature

Faith sees the unseen.

2 Corinthians 4:18  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Faith believes in God’s Word rather than the natural circumstances.

Romans 4:17 …God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.

Begin to see things through “The Eyes of Faith!”

Hebrews 6:9 (NKJ) But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner.

Take Jesus at His Word

A royal official whose son was sick came to Jesus to ask for his healing.

John 4:49-53 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies. 50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”  The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.” 53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.”  So, he and his whole household believed.

This Royal Officer took Jesus at His word.  Will you?  See It, Say It, Do It

Next Life Step: This week I will continue to seek and to SEE the promises of God concerning my needs written on my Needs List.

Say It! Speak God’s Promises!

Confess the Word of God.  Speak what God has told you He is going to do.

Gen. 17:1-6  God even changed Abrams name from Abram (exalted father)—to Abraham (father of a multitude)  Every time Abraham’s name was spoken by himself or someone else, it was a verbal confession of faith.

  • Matthew 12:34-37 …For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of…

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

  • Mark 11:23 Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.

Life and Death are in the power of the tongue.

  • Proverbs 18:21 NKJ Death and life are in the power of the tongue…

I Believe; therefore, I speak!

  • 2 Corinthians 4:13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.

See It Say It Do It

Next Life Step: This week I will continue to SAY the promises of God concerning my needs written on my Needs List.

Do It!  Take Action on God’s Promises!

ALL You Need Is Faith! Right?  Wrong!

Faith without corresponding action is dead faith.

James 2:14-22 (NKJ)  Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead…

Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?”

Even the devil believes!  Don’t ever let us rest on our name and only believe, but let us be believers that do.  We do because we believe!

Noah is a great example.  Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.  By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

Did Noah see it?            Say it?              Do it?               Yes, he did. (Genesis 6:13-22)

Genesis 7:5  And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him.  (1 Peter 3:20).

Tenacity and Action

Last week, we closed looking at the tenacity of some of the people in the Bible who were seeking a miracle from Jesus!

The Paralytics Friends – Mark 2:1-5        The Leper – Luke 5:12-15

Jairus – Luke 8:40-42 &49-56                  The woman with a bleeding problem – Luke 8:43-48

Ten men with leprosy – Luke 17:11-19     The persistent widow – Luke 18:1-8

The blind beggar – Luke 18:35-43            Zacchaeus – Luke 19:1-9

These were also people of action!  They acted on their faith.

See It Say It Do It

Next Life Step: This week I will continue to DO IT, to take action as God leads me concerning my needs written on my Needs List.

Great Examples of Seeing It.  Saying It.  Doing It!

  • Abraham

Genesis 12:1-4 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2  “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. (His Father had already started the journey!)

Clear but Uncertain.  He had clear direction from the Lord, but he wasn’t certain of how the Lord was going to do it.

Did Abraham See it?     Say It?   Do it?

EX:       By faith, I see my spouse saved, but I’m not certain how the Lord is going to do it.

Healing        Deliverance       Revival       Building

  • Rahab the Harlot                                               Did she see it?              Say it?              Do it?
  • Noah                                                                Did he see it?               Say it?              Do it?
  • Daniel                                                               Did he see it?               Say it?              Do it?
  • Esther                                                               Did she see it?              Say it?              Do it?
  • Elijah challenging the Prophet of Baal.    Did he see it?                Say It?              Do it?
  • The Apostles                                                    Did they see it? Say It?              Do it?
  • The 120 in the upper room                                 Did they see it? Say It?              Do it?
  • The early Church                                               Did they see it? Say It?              Do it?

Where is your faith?  What are your actions?

Last week, I asked you what has Jesus already asked you to do, but you haven’t done it yet?  We talked about Jesus seeing people’s faith by their actions.

How are you demonstrating to Jesus that you have faith?

Dream Big!  But take action now even if it is small or limited!

Believers Church

Don’t just see it and say it.  Start doing it!

We call our church Believers, but are we also people of action?

Do we have the faith to do what God has called us to do as a church?

No matter how much faith we have in God’s ability; no matter how much faith we have in our ability to be used by God; no matter how much we believe that we can do all that Jesus has called us to do;

IF we don’t take action, our faith is dead.  Faith without works is dead!

Choosing Faith, we take action to teach, encourage, and inspire authentic Christianity!

Do we encourage authentic Christianity in others?  Are our actions inspiring authentic Christianity?

Choosing Faith, we take actions to meet our goals!

  • to reach the unchurched of Statesboro
  • to proclaim the word of reconciliation
  • to operate in power and purity
  • to encourage and build up all people
  • to help people discover their divine purpose and destiny
  • to be a family of love, acceptance, and forgiveness

Choosing Faith, we take action to fulfill our five purposes!

Worship           Love the Lord Your God

Matt 22:37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the First and Greatest Commandment!”

Evangelism      Make Disciples of All Nations

Matt 28:19a “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…”

Fellowship       Baptizing Them

Matt 28:19b “…baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

Discipleship     Teach Them to Obey My Commands

Matt 28:20

“teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Ministry            Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

Matt 22:39“And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Choosing Faith, we take action to live by our “We Choose Statements”!

WE CHOOSE TO BELIEVE

  • Because we believe God is our partner, we choose to make our plans BIG.
  • Because we believe, we choose to think big and not insult God with small thinking.
  • Because we believe, we choose to take risks and not insult God with safe living.

WE CHOOSE TO BE SPIRITUAL CONTRIBUTORS NOT CONSUMERS

  • The church does not exist for us.
  • We are the church, and we exist for the world.

WE CHOOSE TO LIVE A LIFE OF GENEROSITY

  • We choose generosity because we truly believe it is more blessed to give than to receive.
  • Choosing generosity is not just what we do, being generous is who we are.
  • We choose to plan to be generous and stand firm in generosity.

WE CHOOSE TO BE INWARD AND OUTWARD FOCUSED

  • We don’t just WANT to reach people for Jesus… we MUST reach people for Jesus.
  • We choose to do anything short of sin to reach people who don’t know Jesus.
  • We choose to reach people no one is reaching, so we’ll do things no one is doing.

WE CHOOSE TO DO LIFE TOGETHER

  • We Choose to Help Each Other Find Strength in God.
  • We Choose to Encourage One Another Daily.
  • We Choose to Remind One Another of the Promises of God for Us.
  • We Choose to Do Life Together Because Jesus Will Show Up in A Big Way!

See It Say It Do It

In Conclusion

We have studied many aspects of faith and how it applies to our lives in very practical ways.

We are called to be people who live by faith, and having faith pleases God.

The bottom line that God is saying to us in this series is that Faith is a Choice.

In closing, I would like to use the words of Mary that she spoke at the wedding in Cana (John 2:5).

In her words, faith is put into a nutshell.  It’s simply trusting in God and doing what He tells you to do.

Mary looked at the servants and said, “Whatever He (Jesus) tells you to do, do it!”

See It!  Say It!  Do It!                 Choose Faith!
