God calls us to a life of giving. Not just giving monetarily, but giving of ourselves, time, and energy. We believe that the only way to live a fulfilled life is to invest your life into other people. Jack Hayford once said, Giving is the key to everything. People often shy away form the topic of money and the church.
Surveys tell us that the world often views the church as an organization with it’s hand out all the time. Some people don’t attend church because they feel like the church only wants their money. But the truth of the matter is the scriptures are full of instructions on how we should view, manage, and spend our money.
Why? Because God wants us to be blessed and He wants us to be able to be a blessing to others. We are called by God to carry a word of good news to those around us. To effectively reach people with this gospel message can be costly. But lost people matter to God and they matter to us, therefore we believe they are worth the cost. That’s why giving to your local church is extremely important. Believers Church, like any other organization, has many expenses as we strive to reach a lost world for Christ Jesus. As we give and pool our money together we can accomplish things that will make a lasting difference in our world. We can be part of something that is greater and bigger than ourselves.
Leviticus 27:30 tells us that the tithe (10% of our income) belongs to the Lord. It is HOLY to the LORD.
Malachi 3:10 says: Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
We are challenged by God to put Him to the test and see if He will bless us as we give. Jesus encouraged the Pharisees in Matthew 23:23 to not neglect the weightier matters such as justice and mercy but they were also to continue tithing.
